Over the course of the Programme we plan to source and analyse a variety of data pertaining to children and youth that, in addition to informing our research, will be of interest and use to our audiences.
Understanding the demography of children and youth is important as this can show the changing nature of the child and youth population and map trends in population growth, constitution and distribution. This information can be crucial for informed policy choices for overall child and youth well‑being, including issues such as education, health, employment, investment and interventions. To this end we began by looking at the demographic data available regarding children and youth in Ireland and Northern Ireland, the results of which can be found by selecting ‘Population’ in the menu on the left.
Over the course of the summer (2012) we plan to begin the next stage of work on our databank. We will be organising our data in relation to the UNCRC clusters.
